The short answer

Think twice about the Plunge chiller. The Pro Chiller costs $3,990 on its maker’s site and carries a 12-month warranty. On paper it is a strong chiller: 3/4 HP, built-in ozone and a stated low of 37°F. Its owner reports include repeated failures inside two years and warranty claims that were refused.

What this review is based on

We have not used a Plunge chiller. This review is research-based. The specs, the price and the warranty are the maker’s, read on plunge.com on 6 October 2026. The owner reports come from six threads on the r/coldplunge forum, dated June 2024 to August 2026, and from the maker’s Trustpilot page.

Reports skew negative, because people post when something breaks. We have weighed that. Several owners describing the same sequence, a failure, a replacement and another failure, is still a pattern.

Our picks are in the best cold plunge chillers.

Maker’s spec and price from plunge.com, read on 6 October 2026. A second line on the same page gives the filter as 30 micron, and so do the maker’s filter kits.

The maker states no wattage and no cooling capacity in BTU, so we cannot work out a running cost or check the cooling rate against a sum. Our guide to chiller sizing explains why those two figures matter.

What owners complain about

  • It fails more than once. The longest account covers two years with a Plunge Air tub and an Evolve Pro chiller, kept in a garage with one regular user. The tub leaked in the first month and was replaced. The chiller then failed three times in 18 months, and the setup had been out of use for five months when the owner wrote. A second owner in the same thread replaced two Pro chillers within two years.
  • Warranty claims are contested. That owner’s third claim was refused on the grounds that the filters had not been changed every month, the schedule the maker sets. Another owner, with a cracked heat exchanger inside the first year, says they were told to buy a new chiller and were charged $750 for a technician’s visit.
  • Dead on arrival. One buyer’s chiller ran for five seconds and never powered on again, after a 50-day wait for a delivery promised in ten. A reply in the same thread describes the identical fault.
  • Support is slow. Slow replies are among the most common complaints on the maker’s Trustpilot page.
  • The hoses are the maker’s own. Owners who use the chiller with another tub cut the hose and join it to a standard fitting.

The maker’s Trustpilot page tells the same story in numbers. It scores 3.6 from 602 reviews, with 62% five-star and 29% one-star. The complaints that recur there are chiller failures, leaks, slow support and a drawn-out warranty process. The company replies to 62% of its negative reviews.

Some of the worst reports in these threads are about the Plunge All-In, a different product with the chiller built into the tub. We have left those out of the list above.

The warranty is the problem

A 12-month warranty on a $3,990 chiller is short. For comparison, TURBRO’s FrostCore F85 costs $1,399 on its maker’s site, about a third of the price.

Two lines in the maker’s terms make it shorter in practice.

  • “Any connection to non-Plunge devices will result in warranty voidance.” That is the maker’s own sentence. Use the chiller with another brand’s tub and the warranty is gone.
  • Filters every month. One owner’s claim was refused over the filter schedule. If you buy this chiller, change the filter monthly and keep the receipts.

The maker sells the supplies. A six-month kit without chlorine is $153 and a three-month chlorine kit is $100, on its own site. By our maths that is $306 to $400 a year in filters and treatment, before electricity.

Plunge chiller vs standalone chillers

The Plunge Pro Chiller

3/4 HP, ozone and a filter in one box, app control, and a stated 37°F in 120°F air. $3,990, a 12-month warranty that ends if you connect another maker’s tub, and owner reports of repeated failures.

A standalone chiller

Far less. The dearest in our list, the TURBRO, is $1,399 on its maker’s site. You plumb it to any tub with two ports, and when a pump or a filter fails you replace that part.

Owners who gave up on a branded chiller make this argument themselves. One, after a different brand’s unit died, moved to a build from “cheap, easily replaceable components”. How that is done is in the DIY cold plunge chiller.

Who should buy it, and who should skip it

Skip it if you are choosing a chiller for a tub you already own. The price, the warranty and the owner reports together make it a poor bet, and connecting it to another maker’s tub ends the warranty.

Consider it only as part of a Plunge tub bundle, bought with a return window you have read, and with an extended warranty priced in. Then keep to the filter schedule.

If you already own one and it works, keep it. Change the filter every month, keep proof that you did, and note the date the warranty ends.

Common questions

How cold does the Plunge chiller get?

37°F, by the maker, which says the Pro Chiller holds that in air up to 120°F.

Can I use a Plunge chiller with another tub?

Owners do, by adapting the hoses. The maker’s page says any connection to non-Plunge devices voids the warranty.

How often do you change the Plunge chiller filter?

Monthly, by the maker’s schedule as owners report it. One owner’s warranty claim was refused for not keeping to it.

What is the warranty on a Plunge chiller?

12 months, with paid extensions, by the maker’s page.
